Hello all,

Josh has installed the page translation feature on the wiki that is used to develop the PC-BSD Handbook (http://wiki.pcbsd.org/index.php/PC-BSD_Users_Handbook). If you’re interested in becoming a translator for the Handbook, please Josh so that your wiki logon can be added to the translators group. This is the first time we’ve used this feature on mediawiki so if you have experience using this feature we’d love to hear from you as you can help us reduce our learning curve and streamline the process for translating pages. It may be useful to hang out on #pcbsd on IRC freenode for the first bit as we figure out how to get translations started and can have conversations in real time. We can then send an email to this list on what we've learned to make getting started easier for new translators.

I expect that the first week or so will be spent learning how to use this feature and figuring out a good translation process so that translated versions of the Handbook can be available either with or shortly after each version of PC-BSD is released. The first translations will definitely gtake the longest as up to this point nothing has been translated. I've been working steadily on updating the English version of the wiki since August and the goal is to have the Handbook in a mostly "frozen" state by Christmas and to release a PDF and HTML version of the Handbook with the 8.2 release. The wiki is to be considered the "development branch" (e.g. CURRENT, HEAD) of the Handbook with a "release cut" of the Handbook published with each version of PC-BSD. In theory, this means that after a release the content on the wiki only needs to be changed to reflect changes and new features in the next upcoming release. In theory, this will reduce the amount of time needed to tend and translate the Handbook.
