 I can't seem to find any way to disable this behaviour in KDE/Dolphin.

 One simple workaround is to use an alternate file manager, but I have also
 heard that mounting the device within the user's home directory (so the
 mountpoint has user permissions) also gets rid of these notifications.

 If this is true, the planned move of the Mount Tray to running with user
 permissions might get rid of this issue in the future (Ticket #934).
