Comment:

 You should really use Ports Jail to install ports so they don't interfere
 with the packages that get installed with the operating system (as you
 have discovered).

 KDE3 and KDE4 can not be installed at the same time as they use the same
 prefix, meaning one will break the other. You should also not install KDE3
 ports on a KDE4 system as they are not compatible with each other.
