The new disk manager is not by any means complete, but it reached about
2/3 completion. It works as a partition manager (a frontend for GPART),
and also as a ZFS Pool manager (front end for the zpool command).
The third (and missing) feature will be a front end for the zfs command
to manage filesystems.
But the two parts that are complete are ready for some audacious beta
testers (audacious as in not-afraid-to-damage-entire-volumes-of-data).
Comments/criticism is always welcome.
It's been tested mainly on Virtualbox with SCSI and SATA virtual disks,
so don't use it to manage any real data or anything serious yet (you've
been warned). Even though it's only a frontend, and it prevents as much
as possible the damage to your data due to user stupidity, data loss is
still a possibility.
The interface tries to be minimalistic. Everything is based on smart
context menus that only allow you to do what you can with the specific
item. If you right-click on an item and nothing comes up, it's probably
because it's being used and you can't really touch it. Otherwise let me
know, it might be a bug.
To test it, either build it from source from:
or download a quick-test binary from:
Notice that the file is not a .tar but just the executable, so you'll
have to download it, then chmod +x to allow execution, and finally, run
it using pc-su (it must be run as root).
Please provide feedback, we are still on time to accommodate your
