Few years ago I did such thing:
PC-BSD host with qemu, HP 2400 scanner - usb,
Linux - qemu-guest.
I did connect hp scanner through qemu into linux, scan pictures just
fine (rare glitches though).
So, you could create qemu-guest with Windows, or even try to play with
ReactOS :)
