Dear Kris --
This is a desktop. HP xw8200 dual Xeon 3.4 w/ 4 Gb RAM, Nvidia Quadro
FX3400, on board Intel ICH5 (82801EB) sound chip.
The install was an "upgrade" over 8.0-Alpha-20091215-x64, and I did not have
sound in the Alpha system either. The only modification to the system is
that I installed Kaffeine from ports (i.e., not using Ports Console).
Output of cat/dev/sndstat is:
root at pcbsd-5301# cat /dev/sndstat
FreeBSD Audio Driver (newpcm: 64bit 2009061500/amd64)
Installed devices:
pcm0: <Intel ICH5 (82801EB)> at io 0xf2600400, 0xf2600600 irq 17 bufsz 16384
kld snd_ich [MPSAFE] (1p:4v/1r:4v channels duplex default)
root at pcbsd-5301#
