Well, I'm looking here and when doing an upgrade, it shouldn't touch the 
"/etc/fstab" at all. How are you determining that its missing? When you 
boot up is /etc/fstab just gone?

Also, UFS+S is soft-updates, which is pretty standard on FreeBSD :)
