I get a freeze with the ATI (non-3D) driver selection as well upon enabling
powerd.

Any suggestions? I haven't rebooted it yet, so I'm open to ideas :D
None of the virtual terms are accessible (f1-f8), just stuck on a solid
black screen from the moment X starts.
