[PC-BSD Testing] gvim problem

Hi all,
 Let me notice that gvim contains bug which prevents it to start in 
"graphical-mode". It have been mentioned that the fix is in editing
"set guifont" variable in ~/.gvimrc. Anyway - even if I set this I get also:
":1: error: unexpected character `\1', expected keyword - e.g. `style'" error.
1. Where I can find this "unexpected character" and how to fix it?
2. How I can force gvim to use utf-8 characters? I have
set encoding=utf-8
set fileencoding=utf-8
in ~/.vimrc, but standard fonts are not able to display this correctly.
3. Why I see only several font types in "font selection menu". How I can 
extend this list?
4. Is it possible to give gvim a little bit better look. Now it looks a little 
bit ugly (it is not so important).
