How exactly your language switching are configured?
My configured with KDE language switcher, like this:
Russian: setxkbmap -model pc104 -layout ru,us -variant ,winkeys
I'm always using russian but with russian or latin variants (I know, not
best way, but...)
So, I have currently same pc-bsd and firefox versions, and can
successful enter russian letters.
Hope this would help :)
