[PC-BSD Testing] Subjective thoughts so far...

It is not the parallel port that is causing the problem. Does not sio  
refer to your serial port? Mine gives me the same problem as you but I  
do have both serial and parallel ports on my system. I have tried it  
every way I can think of in the BIOS and I did manage to get it to  
boot once. The problem started on my system when I installed a sound  
card and disabled the onboard sound. If I yank the card it will boot  
just fine so I suspect you are having a problem with sound detection  
same as I am. I still have a couple of things I want to try yet, though.
