[PC-BSD Support] system settings not saving

In system settings and changing the appearance or desktop I used to get 
a pop up box saying "saving system settings"  It hung during one of 
these updates and had to kill it.  Now I don't see that pop up box 
anymore and any changes I make do not save.
I was hoping one of those updates would fix it but I still have the same 
problem.
I'm searching kde but not having a lot of luck.
