You could just use portsnap, portmaster, and do the /usr/ports/UPDATING
dance... I just did, I have no issues that I can tell... other than my
sound card doesn't work by default, and the installer on the RR doesnt
detect my video card as nvidia... but if I screw with /etc/xorg.conf and
force nvidia it works fine...

I dont really have any suggestions, but it may be worth thinking about
having a checkbox in the installer that allows the user to force
a certain video driver.... for whatever reason, I somehow have a nvidia
card every release that isn't detected correctly.. (dmesg and pciconf
output below)
